BEHIND BARNIE

BEHIND BARNIE: JULIETTE PELLEGRIN

If BARNIE is the brand it is today, it is also thanks to the people who collaborate daily with Delphine and Edouard… or the importance of knowing how to surround yourself with the right people. Each member of the team, each with their own story, expertise, talents, personality and aspirations, drives things forward to help the brand grow and evolve day after day. Because BARNIE would not be BARNIE without its teams, we decided to introduce and shine a spotlight on each of the members who make them up. For this first edition of "Behind BARNIE", Juliette, stylist at BARNIE, agreed to take part in a 10-question interview.

An epicurean, a lover of beauty, passionate about work done well and inspired by everything around her — art and nature alike — Juliette, 29, is a fulfilled stylist who is truly comfortable in her own skin. Alongside Delphine for just under 2 years, she first honed her skills at Kenzo on the kids' side before specialising in womenswear. Juliette has a very clear vision of what she loves and what nourishes her day to day: the poetic and bold fashion of Jacquemus, Ottolenghi's cooking, Matisse's collages, Lac de Serre-Ponçon and the creative flair and fashion vision of Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh!

Hello Juliette, could you introduce yourself?
Hello! I am Juliette, I am 29 years old and I am a stylist. Based in Lyon for 10 years, I am passionate about colour and textiles. A graduate of ESMOD with a specialism in womenswear, I first worked for five years in childrenswear at KENZO. That brand shaped me and left a deep mark on my professional identity. After a few years, I decided to move into women's ready-to-wear and began working for Cocottes, now Barnie.

What is your role at BARNIE?

I have been a stylist at BARNIE for a year and a half.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

As a stylist, my work involves designing the ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories collections, under the direction of the Artistic Director, Delphine. Together, we produce around ten collections per year, including capsules designed a year before going on sale. I also collaborate daily with the Production & Development team.

Each day begins with a cup of tea at the office on Avenue Maréchal Foch in the 6th arrondissement of Lyon.

My role unfolds in three key stages:

First, the creative research phase: I look for a wealth of visuals, shapes, colour swatches, materials and photographs. I consult books on art, architecture and accessories. I also attend international trade shows such as Première Vision to enrich the fabric library.

From all this research and the collection structure, I begin to sketch. Next comes the creation of technical files for suppliers. After a few weeks, we receive the prototypes. It is a moment I love. A few back-and-forth exchanges between us and the suppliers are still needed before achieving the desired product.

Once the size sets are approved, we head off for a shoot with the Communication & Image team. These moments are intense, but extremely rewarding, as they represent the culmination of our collections.

Working for Barnie means taking on rich and varied responsibilities, conceived with a 360 vision: creation, communication, image and brand strategy. It is fascinating!

How would you describe your personal style?

If I had to describe my wardrobe in a few words, I would say: simplicity, clean and minimal lines, colours and stripes, relaxed cuts paired with fitted cuts, all with comfort in mind.

If you could co-create with an artist, who would you choose?
It is hard to choose — so many talents inspire me… I would single out Simon Porte Jacquemus. I have followed him since the very beginning. I love him as much for his Artistic Direction as for his products and colour ranges. It is fresh and poetic. A designer, Luke Edward Hall. A British artist and designer. His creativity is boundless. He explores projects ranging from fashion to interior design, through ceramics and illustrations. A painter, Matisse. I adore his cut-out paper period. The Matisse Museum in Nice is a sublime place that fascinates me. A creative duo, the talented couple formed by Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh for their authentic and inspiring vision of a fashion that breaks free from conventions.
What drives you outside of work?
I love art : visiting exhibitions, going to see a dance show, taking photos, discovering new museums. I am also fascinated by the world of food, whether through cooking or the art of the table. I am a huge fan of Yotam Ottolenghi and I highly recommend his restaurants in London — it is an incredible experience! I love discovering new addresses and hunting for tableware… I have a passion for flowers, I have been practising Ikebana for 2 years — I love these very minimalist and graphic arrangements. And then travel … I love getting out and discovering new cultures. The mountains fascinate me. Originally from the Hautes-Alpes, Lac de Serre-Ponçon is my place of calm. Finally, to let off steam in the city, I do yoga and crossfit.

What is the achievement at BARNIE that you are most proud of?

The birth of BARNIE. I am proud of everything we have created together. It took a great deal of work, commitment and energy.

The development of the winter 24/25 collections marked a move upmarket with the arrival of new references, conceived down to the finest details. We are instilling an increasingly strong DNA into Barnie, both in terms of products and image. We also launched a footwear and lifestyle line for this winter and we are working on two new lines for next summer. I cannot say more, but you will be able to discover them next summer (stay tuned ;)) !

Three Instagram posts you loved this week?

The new Jacquemus campaign, featuring Lisa Jahovic, a British artist based in London.

Nomasei opening a pop-up in New York. A feature in Milk on Ronan Bouroullec, a French designer I greatly admire.

As a bonus, I also loved a dish from Maison Sota, one of the best restaurants I have discovered in Paris, created by Sota ATSUMI.

Finally, the post by Blanca Miro shooting for Marie Claire Idée, dressed in Loewe, was stunning!

What advice would you give to the Juliette of 10 years ago?
Stay true to yourself and follow your instincts.

To close this first edition of Behind BARNIE, we hope this behind-the-scenes visit to the brand has enchanted you as much as it has inspired us. Discover more portraits that bring the BARNIE universe to life, coming very soon.
