BEHIND BARNIE
BEHIND BARNIE: JULIETTE PELLEGRIN
If BARNIE is the brand it is today, it's also thanks to the people who collaborate daily with Delphine and Edouard… highlighting the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. Each member of the team, with their own story, expertise, talents, personality, and aspirations, contributes to the brand's growth and evolution day after day. Because BARNIE wouldn't be BARNIE without its teams, we've decided to introduce you to and showcase each of its members. For this first edition of "Behind BARNIE," Juliette, a stylist at BARNIE, agreed to participate in a 10-question interview.
A lover of beauty and the finer things in life, passionate about meticulous work and inspired by everything around her, from art to nature, 29-year-old Juliette is a fulfilled and confident stylist. Having worked alongside Delphine for just under two years, she first honed her skills at Kenzo, in the children's department, before specializing in womenswear. Juliette has a very clear vision of what she loves and what nourishes her daily life: the poetic and audacious fashion of Jacquemus, the cuisine of Ottolenghi, the collages of Matisse, the Serre-Ponçon lake, and the creative flair and vision of fashion of Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh!
What is your position at BARNIE?
I have been a stylist at BARNIE for a year and a half.
WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?
As a stylist, my job is to design ready-to-wear, shoe, and accessory collections, under the direction of the Artistic Director, Delphine. Together, we create about ten collections a year, including capsule collections designed a year in advance of their release. I also collaborate daily with the Production & Development team.
Each day begins with tea at the office on Avenue Maréchal Foch in the 6th arrondissement of Lyon.
My mission unfolds in three key stages:
First, the creative research phase: I search for a multitude of visuals, shapes, color samples, materials, and photos. I consult art, architecture, and accessories books. I also participate in international trade shows like Première Vision to enrich the fabric library.
Based on all this research and the collection structure, I begin to sketch. Next comes the creation of technical files for the suppliers. After a few weeks, we receive the prototypes. It's a moment I love. There are still a few back-and-forths between us and the suppliers before we get the desired product.
Once the size sets are finalised, we head out for a photoshoot with the Communication & Image team. These moments are intense, but extremely satisfying, as they represent the culmination of our collections.
Working for Barnie means undertaking rich and varied missions, conceived with a 360-degree vision : creation, communication, image, and brand strategy. It's exciting!
How would you describe your clothing style?
If I had to describe my wardrobe in a few words, I would say: simplicity, clean and minimal lines, colors and stripes, loose cuts combined with fitted cuts, all with a focus on comfort.
What accomplishment at BARNIE are you most proud of?
The birth of BARNIE. I am proud of everything we have created together. It was a lot of work, investment and energy.
The development of the 24/25 winter collections marked a step upmarket with the arrival of new items, designed down to the smallest detail. We are infusing Barnie with an increasingly strong DNA, both in terms of products and image. We have also launched a footwear and lifestyle line for this winter and are working on two new lines for next summer. I can't say more, but you'll be able to discover them next summer (stay tuned ;))!
Three Instagram posts you loved this week?
The new Jacquemus campaign, interpreted by Lisa Jahovic, a British artist based in London.
Nomasei is opening a pop-up shop in New York. A feature in Milk magazine by Ronan Bouroullec, a French designer I greatly admire.
As a bonus, I also loved a dish from Maison Sota, one of the best restaurants I discovered in Paris, created by Sota ATSUMI.
Finally, Blanca Miro's post of herself shooting for Marie Claire Idées, dressed in Loewe, was amazing!
To conclude this first edition of Behind BARNIE, we hope this behind-the-scenes look at the brand has delighted you as much as it has inspired us. Stay tuned for more portraits that bring the BARNIE universe to life, coming soon.
