BEHIND BARNIE

BEHIND BARNIE: MARIE CAZENAVE

If BARNIE is the brand it is today, it is also thanks to the people who collaborate every day with Delphine and Edouard… or the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. Each member of the team, with their own story, expertise, talents, personality and aspirations, brings something to help the brand grow and evolve day after day. Because BARNIE would not be BARNIE without its teams, we decided to introduce and shine a light on each of the members who make them up. For this second edition of "Behind BARNIE", Marie, Marketing & Client Manager, agreed to take part in a 10-question interview.

Passionate about the world of luxury and driven by a deep love of jewellery, Marie, 39, embodies elegance and authenticity in everything she does. After a decade at Cartier, she joined the BARNIE adventure two years ago as Marketing & Client Manager, with the ambition of creating a client experience where advice and excellence go hand in hand. True to her values, she is dedicated to creating precious memories shared with her loved ones between Lyon, Paris and La Baule.

Hello Marie, could you introduce yourself?
Hello, my name is Marie, I am 39 years old, I am married and I have 2 children, Louis and Alice. I have always been passionate about the world of luxury, and more particularly about jewellery. My grandmother was a jeweller. I spent my Wednesdays and weekends at her boutique with her. I loved it! It gave me a taste for luxury, for client relations, for excellence. It fascinated me. I believe it shaped a part of my personality and who I am today. After my studies, I had the chance to work for 10 years at Cartier — an unforgettable and incredibly formative experience. I held positions in marketing and CRM. Four years ago, my husband and I decided to leave Paris and move to Lyon. A real life change for our family. I love continuing to go to Paris very regularly, but only for the good things: family, friends, restaurants, exhibitions! It is a balance we have created between Paris and Lyon, a balance we enjoy and that suits us. Our children feel as much Lyonnais as Parisian. I joined the BARNIE adventure in October 2022. A new professional challenge, very different from what I had experienced at Cartier, but always with that same pursuit of excellence, in service of Client Relations. Every day brings new projects and it is exciting to be part of this adventure. We are involved in many things across the board — that is the advantage of a small company. I enjoy combining strategy with operations.

What is your role at BARNIE?

I have been Marketing and Client Manager for 2 years at BARNIE.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

On the marketing side, I analyse, among other things, sales figures for both Products and Clients. I work on purchasing recommendations with the Production & Style team. It is fascinating to work on collections so far in advance. I also produce, with my team, the packaging, product descriptions, and e-merchandising on the website.

Client relations are at the heart of the strategy at BARNIE.
That is what immediately appealed to me when I met Edouard and Delphine: conceiving client relations as a fully-fledged loyalty tool, a way of setting ourselves apart. We handle our clients' requests as we would wish to be treated ourselves. I am fortunate to have Agathe by my side, Head of Client Services, who pays particular attention to advice and to handling requests. We make a great team and continue to shape client relations together, just as we dream of it at BARNIE. We share the same vision, the same ambition.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style… fairly classic I would say! I like understated, elegant clothing. A piece should be able to be worn on multiple occasions depending on how it is styled, the accessories, the shoes.

WHAT DRIVES YOU IN LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK?
My family! They are my strength, my energy. Every moment shared reminds me of what is essential and keeps me grounded in my values. At the same time, once you have children, they clearly take up a good deal of your daily life… I love everything that is beautiful. I place particular importance on interior decoration. I need an environment I find beautiful in order to flourish and feel at peace. And finally, I love sharing moments with my friends and meeting new people. Memories are my foundation, and it is up to us to create wonderful ones as often as possible — for me, often between Paris, La Baule and Lyon. Paris and Lyon represent my everyday life, life at full speed. La Baule is my anchor, my place of calm. I have been going there since I was little. My husband and I got married there. It is a place where our family and friends come together across generations, which I particularly cherish. So many of our most beautiful memories are there, and it is already a landmark for our children.

What is the achievement at BARNIE that you are most proud of?

I believe what makes me most proud is building a close relationship with our clients. We sometimes exchange about life moments, anecdotes, special occasions.

Beyond that, I am very proud of having built a close-knit team. We can count on one another, and for me, that is essential.

We know you're passionate about jewellery — what types of jewellery do you prefer to wear on a daily basis?

The jewellery that matters most to me, the most precious, is that which reminds me of particular occasions, people, moments in life. I never take off my wedding ring, my engagement ring, or a diamond on a chain around my neck. Simple, elegant pieces I can wear on any occasion. They go with everything!

That is for everyday wear. Then I love wearing bolder pieces, more eye-catching ones, particularly earrings. They can make all the difference to a simple look and carry real added value.

Three Instagram posts you loved this week?

I love Christmas, so right now I'm spoilt for choice… It's a magical time of year. The post about the Dior illuminations on Avenue Montaigne transports you right into the scene as if you were there. It's magnificent. At this time of year, it really is the most beautiful avenue in Paris!

Another post that caught my attention this week was that of Violette Dorange, the youngest skipper in the Vendée Globe. I think she's incredible! I love her tenacity, her strength. I adore following her adventures.

And finally, the reopening of the ice rink at the Grand Palais. The glass roof is sublime!

What advice would you give to the Marie of 10 years ago?
Not everything is black or white — sometimes it is grey, and that is perfectly fine.

To close this second edition of Behind BARNIE, we hope that this introduction to the team members has given you a little more insight into the profiles who work for the brand every day. Discover more portraits that bring the BARNIE universe to life very soon.
