BEHIND BARNIE

BEHIND BARNIE: THOMAS PARMENTIER

If BARNIE has become the brand it is today, it is also thanks to those who support Delphine and Edouard on a daily basis. Each member of the team, with their story, their expertise, their talents, their personality and their aspirations, brings a unique energy that has been shaping the brand day after day for five years now. Because BARNIE would not be BARNIE without its teams, we have chosen to shine a light on those who bring it to life. For this third edition of Behind BARNIE, Thomas, Image Manager, agreed to take part in the interview.

Creative at heart, and driven by his passion for photography and music, Thomas, 25, contributes to shaping the image of BARNIE. Having joined BARNIE in 2022 as part of a work-study programme, he is now Image Manager within the Communications and Image department. Guided by his eye for detail and inspirations drawn from his love of fashion, his musical world and the moments of everyday life.

Hello Thomas, could you introduce yourself?
Hello! I'm Thomas, I'm 25 years old and I come from Valence, in the Drôme. I have a degree in business and a master's in communications. Passionate about fashion, I joined the BARNIE adventure in 2022. Before that, I cut my teeth at LE LABO STORE, where I discovered high fashion brands, curation, design and graphic art. That experience had a strong influence on my artistic vision. I have a great love of photography. I always carry my camera with me and don't hesitate to take it out whenever something catches my eye. Music is something that drives me enormously — one of my first experiences was actually managing the communications and image for my stepfather's nightclub. I then went on to organise events alongside him. I also set up an image and booking agency for musical artists a while back: HOLD-UP.

What is your role at BARNIE?

I am the Image Manager.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

Working alongside the Communications and Image team, my role is to contribute to the co-creation and development of the brand's visual identity. I primarily handle photo and video content creation.

My responsibilities also revolve around shoot production: sourcing inspiration, organisation, building briefs — all to ensure overall consistency in line with BARNIE's DNA.

On the e-commerce and digital side, I am responsible for product visuals, product pages, as well as the creation of product lookbooks, while maintaining aesthetic consistency throughout.

YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECT AT BARNIE?

All our shoots, and particularly the last one, where I loved being able to explore the art direction for capturing STILL LIFE content — that is, creating striking images from worn BARNIE products.
For that, I had to build a moodboard in line with the creative direction, then imagine a fitting set design using the elements available in the studio.

What drives you most outside of work?
I would say photography, interior design and music, of course.

How would you define your personal style?

It's never easy to define your style when you love fashion, but I would describe mine as minimalist. Relaxed cuts with a refined and elegant palette. I love mixing worlds, like wearing a pair of trainers with a suit. But also having several styles to build different personas, depending on my mood and what I feel like at any given moment.

We know that music holds an important place in your life — what is your latest musical obsession?

Music is an integral part of my life, and house music in particular. It's hard for me to choose, but I would say "I Want Your Soul (AVH Rework)" by Armand Van Helden, perfect for getting in a good mood or having a great time.

Three Instagram posts that have inspired you recently?

One of the latest posts from Paraboot, presenting prototypes designed by Basile Lapray to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the iconic Michael. I love this brand!

The collaboration between Apple and Issey Miyake, with the iPhone Pocket. Two iconic brands joining forces to release an unprecedented product. Tech and fashion together — who would have thought?!

And finally, a post from the account Le Filtre "Photographing Architecture". A series of shots captured on an iPhone — I love the way the artist, Mattia Giannattasio, immerses us in the urban world in an artistic way.

Is there an image (photo, film, artwork) that has stayed with you and never left you?
The film Skyfall. Everything is perfect in this film: the original soundtrack, the actors, the story, the colour grading, as well as the images and camera angles used.

A series you absolutely must not miss, in your opinion?

Severance, my one piece of advice: GO FOR IT!

If you had to assign 3 BARNIE pieces to people in your life, who comes to mind and which pieces would you picture them in?
The Suzane tote bag for my mother, who loves this format that can elevate an outfit. Beautiful and practical, she switches it up according to her mood and the seasons, even though she adores her houndstooth tote from winter 24. The Niki cap for my father (yes, yes, it's not just for you ladies), who collects caps. Summer and winter alike, it's his trademark. And the Bertille jumper for my grandmothers: a timeless classic, quite simply.

To close this third edition of Behind BARNIE, we hope that discovering the team members has given you a little more insight into the profiles who work for the brand every day. Stay tuned for more portraits that bring the BARNIE universe to life.
